THE RE-CO-KIT: A (cognitive motivational) reality construction kit

Ponieważ rola teorii jest niepomijalna, a dyskusja na poziomie teoretycznym jest stanowczo zbyt rzadką praktyką, zapowiada się nam ciekawy dyskusyjny wtorek. To spotkanie będzie w języku angielskim.
Abstract: We live in a post-consensus society, characterised by the pluralisation of perceptions, opinions, world-views and thus, “realities” people live in. New technological possibilities combined with the economic necessity of traditional and modern media to fulfil recipient’s needs increases the absolute amount of “realities” believed to be true. This purely theoretical talk presents an individual level, cognitive motivational approach on how individuals having access to unlimited information actively construct their differing realities. It represents an innovative combination of theoretical approaches from different academic fields: Social Constructivism, Uses and Gratifications Approach (Katz, 1962) and Cognitive Dissonance Theory (Festinger, 1957). Basic assumptions from these approaches are combined into a new theoretical framework. Its novelty, usefulness and possible empirical tests will be discussed jointly.
