Dear all,
we would like to invite you to the next open seminar of the Centre for Research on Prejudice. Our guest speaker will be Karolina Koszałkowska, a PhD student at the Institute of Psychology at the University of Łódź, studying disparagement humor, prejudice and morality.
The seminar will take place on February 8, at 12-13.30, in an online format.
I will distribute the link to google meet next week.

Disparagement humor, prejudice, and morality
Karolina Koszałkowska (University of Lodz), Thomas E. Ford (Western Carolina University), Andrew R. Olah (Kansas State University)
Abstract:
There are many reasons for and consequences of using humor in social settings. Most importantly, some of us may believe that jokes that are racist, sexist, homophobic, religion-disparaging, or otherwise offensive can reinforce prejudice and stereotypes and therefore have negative social consequences. Because of that potential social threat associated with humor, a recent line of research investigates how one’s moral convictions (primarily moral foundations) can shape appreciation of disparagement humor, i.e., humor that belittles and derogates specific individuals, social groups, or ideologies. In this presentation, we provide the theoretical background for how and why people might evaluate certain humor/people using that sort of humor as immoral, as well as discuss the existing and planned studies in the area.
Bio:
Karolina Koszałkowska is a PhD candidate at the Institute of Psychology, University of Lodz, Poland. She has recently finalized writing her thesis entitled “Dark Triad traits and proactive and reactive aggression within the social emotional information processing model in young adults” under the supervision of prof. Grażyna Poraj. Karolina’s research interests concern social psychology, particularly aggression, prejudice, morality, and the social psychology of humor. She is most interested in how different types of humor relate to political & gender identities and one’s sense of right and wrong.

na stanowisko asystenta badawczego
(Marie Skłodowska-Curie Early Stage Researcher)
Wydział Psychologii Uniwersytetu Warszawskiego przyjmuje aplikacje na stanowisko Asystenta Badawczego (Early Stage Researcher) w wymiarze jednego pełnego etatu naukowego w Katedrze Psychologii Poznawczej i Neurokognitywistyki na okres maksymalnie czterech miesięcy.
Stanowisko jest częścią projektu SAPIENS, realizowanego w ramach grantu Marie Skłodowska-Curie Innovative Training Network (Program Horyzont 2020), którego celem jest zbadanie, w jaki sposób dynamika wczesnych interakcji społecznych wspiera rozwój funkcjonalny mózgu społecznego. Kandydat, który zostanie zatrudniony na ww. stanowisku, podejmie pracę w kwietniu 2023 roku. Kandydat musi mieć tytuł magistra i może być już doktorantem. W ramach projektu badacz będzie analizował przygotowane dane EEG dokumentujące dynamikę interakcji pomiędzy niemowlęciem a jego rodzicem (opiekunem). Celem projektu będzie przygotowanie raportu (z możliwością opublikowania artykułu), w jaki sposób koordynacja motoryczna i wokalna pomiędzy dzieckiem a jego opiekunem wpływa na późniejszy rozwój poznawczy, emocjonalny i językowy dziecka.

invites applications for a position of
research assistant
(Marie Skłodowska-Curie Early Stage Researcher)
The Faculty of Psychology, University of Warsaw is accepting applications for a full-time Research Assistant (Early Stage Researcher) position at the Cognitive Psychology and Neurocognition Unit for a period of a maximum of four months.
The position is part of SAPIENS, a pan-European Marie Skłodowska-Curie Innovative Training Network (EU Horizon 2020 Programme), which aims to investigate how the dynamics of early social exchanges support the development of the social brain. The candidate’s employment will begin in April of 2023. The candidate employed for this position has a Master’s degree and can already be enrolled in a Ph.D. programme. The candidate will investigate motor and vocal coordination between infants and their caregivers. The project will involve longitudinal dense-sampling data collected throughout the first years of a child’s life. Preprocessed EEG data and auditory data recordings will be analysed to establish how motor and vocal coordination shape a child’s cognitive, emotional, and language development. A report and potential article will be written based on the analysed data.
